On September 13, LHS worked with deputies from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9 Unit to conduct a routine check of our building and parking lots. This will be a routine occurrence throughout the remainder of the school year. I would like to extend a big thank you to the deputies of the RCSO for their continued support of the Raider community and thank you for helping to make our schools a safe place to learn!

If you are in 10th through 12th grade and interested in the military, you need to sign up to take the ASVAB. The exam will be on November 3rd in the morning. If you have ACT in the morning, you will stay here and be excused from ACT to take the exam. This is the only time we plan on offering the exam at school this school year. The better you score on the exam, the more jobs you will be eligible for and the better sign on bonuses that will be available to you.

Seniors and Parents!
There will be a financial aid meeting on September 19 from 6pm to 7:30pm to discuss the different forms of financial aid that is available to help your student pay to complete a certificate program, trade school program, associates degree, or a four year degree. They will be able to answer other questions you may have about financial aid and completing the FAFSA.
The FAFSA is required for students to be able to receive financial aid and to be eligible for grants and scholarships. The FAFSA will NOT be available for completion until October 1, 2022.
Let the financial aid reps help you to complete these needed steps for your child and take the hassle out of it for you!

A message from the yearbook staff to seniors:
I understand your concerns about the Senior portraits, so I have decided to add Then and Now pages to the yearbook. You can submit your baby picture along with a Senior portrait of your choice. (Please keep them appropriate for the yearbook.) You will need to submit BOTH a baby picture and a senior portrait for them to be used in the yearbook. Please be sure your picture is in portrait orientation, not landscape. If you have questions, come see me. I prefer a digital submission to my email. duwan.whitten@k12.wv.us A submission of only a baby picture OR only a senior portrait WILL NOT BE ADDED TO THE YEARBOOK. The deadline for submission is Friday October 28, 2022, no exceptions! The drape/tux pictures will still be in the yearbook as your Senior Portrait. Drape/Tux pictures will be taken at school on September 15. There will not be makeup days for these Senior pictures at the school. Please make every attempt to be present on this date! If not, you will not be included on the main Senior pages of the yearbook. ACT students, will need to have their picture taken either before you leave for votech or as soon as you get back. If you have morning votech, get your picture made as soon as you get back from votech. If you have afternoon votech, please have your picture taken before you leave for votech,

Reminder! Picture day is tomorrow, September 7 for underclassmen. There will be extra order forms at the school if your child has lost theirs. Prices range from $14.99-$59.99 for the packets. Fall sport pictures will be taken following underclassmen.
